Arrest of a German citizen in Kashan on charges of espionag




nedaieroshan/ - Saturday, August 27, 2022 - Security agents arrested a German citizen on charges of espionage.

According to the report of nedaieroshan , quoting Radio Farda (Radio Liberty), yesterday, Friday, August 26, 2022, the German Foreign Ministry announced the arrest of 66-year-old Arvid Garneh in Iran by the security forces on charges of "espionage" in Kashan.
Also, it has been announced that Arvid Garneh has entered Iran as a tourist and traveled to Tehran and Tabriz on a motorcycle.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany has confirmed that Arvid Garneh is in contact with the officials of the consular unit of the German Embassy in Iran.
In Article 5 of the Criminal Procedure Law, it is emphasized on informing the accused as soon as possible about the alleged charges and providing the right of access to a lawyer and other defense rights mentioned in the law.
Although the crime of espionage is completely rejected from the point of view of human rights, nevertheless, in recent years, Iran's security agencies have arrested many foreign citizens and even dual citizens on charges related to espionage and collaboration with the hostile government, or even under the name of the "influence project", they have accused the detainees and sentenced them to prison, and after a while, they have used these people as a tool to make a deal and achieve their political goals.
Arbitrary arrest, failure to explain the allegation(s) against the person at the moment of arrest and keeping the accused in custody indeterminately violates Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and also Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights approved on December 16, 1966.
Also, people's right to a fair trial is one of the inalienable rights that is emphasized in Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Denying the accused access to a lawyer during interrogation, investigation and proceedings violates Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Extracting confession under threats violates Article 5 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 7 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which emphasizes the prohibition of torture.
