A report on the situation of Gelareh Abbasi in Evin Prison




Nedaieroshan - Saturday, August 27, 2022 - Gelareh Abbasi, a political prisoner incarcerated in Evin prison is enduring her prison term.

According to nedaieroshan , Gelareh Abbasi, born in 1976, resident of Tehran, a political prisoner jailed in Evin Prison, is spending her 2-years-and-6-months prison term, while she is deprived of the basic rights of a prisoner, including the right to treatment or being sent on leave.
"Gelareh Abbasi is suffering from rheumatism, neck arthritis and lumbar disc disease, but due to the limited medical facilities in Evin Prison and based on the doctors' prescriptions, she should go to a specialized treatment center. But not only she been refused to be dispatched to a hospital outside the prison, she has also been denied the right to be granted a leave on or to use electronic ankle.", according to a well-informed source, in an interview with the reporter of Human Rights in Iran.
It should be mentioned that in the process of proceedings, Gelareh Abbasi was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Iman Afshari, on the charge of "assembly and collusion with the intention of disrupting the security of the country", and she is currently serving her prison sentence.
Filing cases against civil society activists violates Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights adopted on 16 December 1966, which emphasizes the right of individuals to disseminate political and ideological opinions and views without border restrictions
Detaining people without informing them of their charges and lack of access to a lawyer for the accused are among the violations of international human rights instruments, Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, adopted on 16 December 1966
Also, people's right to a fair trial is one of the inalienable rights that is emphasized in Article 10 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
